Let’s not wait to educate
After building software at both early-stage startups and S&P 500 companies during undergrad, I realized the impact of this work on the world was suboptimal, if there were much larger issues at hand – namely the global environmental crisis.
Climate change is driving an increase in sea levels, water scarcity, and extreme weather events whose catastrophic effects are already impacting the population. The world’s biggest companies have all pledged to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, but in 2050, today's middle school and high school students will be the ones not only leading these companies, but more importantly, building their own.
The most worthwhile investment in the future of Earth right now is to educate the next generation so they can one day create and scale-up breakthrough technology that maximizes energy efficiency and minimizes waste using less material intensity and cost.
Our promise to students is that ecotechlab is the experience they’ll later believe to have been the most valuable throughout their entire K-12 career; whether they’re turning their college research projects into startups in 10 years, or leading sustainability initiatives at existing companies in 20 - every investment they make in their learning now brings humanity closer to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
